Special Holiday 2003
Edition
Letter from the crew...
2003 continued to be full of
adventure and exploration for the
crew of Nine of Cups. We've
spent the entire year in South
America and have only just begun
to touch the surface of this
magnificent continent and all of its
beauty. Our newsletters allow us
to share with you some of the
highlights of our passage from
Venezuela in the Eastern
Caribbean where we left off last
year across the Caribbean Sea,
through the Panama Canal to
Ecuador where we are now.
Highlights of 2003:

*
Cartagena the Beautiful
*Panama Canal Transit
*Crossing the Equator
*Speaking in Tongues
*Kuna Yala
*Lizards for Lunch

Visiting Colombia
Cartagena the Beautiful

Without a doubt, the most
beautiful city we have visited in
all of our travels has been
Cartagena. Though Colombia
has had a bad reputation for
drugs, Cartagena was safe,
friendly and culturally as well as
aesthetically appealing. We
wandered this historic, walled
city in awe, soaking in the
beauty and reveling in the sheer
delight of dazzling balconies,
cobblestone streets and history
alive.
We keep an extensive photo
journal and it was difficult to
decide what were the "best" parts
of the adventure to include...it's all
been fantastic.

We're happy, healthy, older and
looking forward to spending most
of 2004 in South America...though
plans are always subject to change.

We wish all of our family and
friends health, wealth, love and
happiness in 2004 and the time to
enjoy them all.

We love hearing from everyone so
please...keep in touch:

The transit of the Panama Canal
was met with both nervous
anticipation and excitement. We
managed a dry run as
linehandlers on another boat
before making our own transit
so we knew what to expect.
Though it's always different with
your own boat, the transit on 14
September 2003 went smoothly
(thank Neptune!) and we
entered the Pacific Ocean tired,
but exhilarated. Many folks
were able to watch our transit
via the livecam at Miraflores
Locks. Our friends, the Grimms,
sent us a photo. That's us nested
next to the catamaran, our lock
partner.
